Construction Volunteer:

Friends House is located at:  627 Martin Place, Ypsilanti, MI

House of Abraham is located at: 1881 Emerson Ave., Ypsilanti, MI 

Good News House is located at 374 Firwood, Ypsilanti, MI

Thrivent Builds is located at 360 Firwood, Ypsilanti, MI 

  • To sign up as a general construction volunteer, start by clicking the sign in button in the upper right corner of this page
  • Then, scroll down and find the date you are interested in volunteering for listed below 
  • Click the "Sign Up" button next to that date
  • Follow the prompts
  • You will receive a confirmation email once you have registered
  • You will also receive a reminder email three days before your scheduled volunteer date
  • To cancel for a build day:
    • Scroll down to the date in question under the "Your Upcoming Events" section
    • Click the "Cancel" button next to that day
    • Follow the prompts

Construction Leadership:

  • If you are interested in taking a larger leadership role on one of our construction projects, please contact our construction manager, Bill Dunphy, at constcoor@h4h.org.
  • Time Commitment:  Varies depending on role (Crew chief = 1 day, Construction House Leader = 12-14 weeks) 

Committees:

  • Time Commitment:  1-2 meetings monthly, plus a few additional tasks depending on the committee.
  • Committees available:
    • Construction:  The committee strives to develop standardized, readily buildable houses, which are simple, yet solid. Committee is composed of those who work in the construction industry.  If interested, please contact Rob Nissly at rob@goblueshark.com.
    • Family Support:  Assist our partner families throughout the construction process, to ensure that each family is successful in their new home.  Stays in touch with the family for at least one year following closing.  If interested, please contact Yvonne Dulin at YDulin@aol.com
    • Development:   Responsible for raising money from churches, businesses, and individuals.  If interested, please contact Theresa Finney-Dumais at comdir@h4h.org.
    • ReStore:  General support for the ReStore through volunteer recruitment, marketing, advertising needs, and overall strategic development of the business.  If interested, please contact David Teare at dat@acmpm.com.
    • Site Selection:  Responsible for finding building sites and moving development projects through the planning process. (Composed of members who have a familiarity with land acquisition and the process of purchasing land.)  If interested, please contact Sarah Teare at grantsmgr@h4h.org.
      • Land Acquisition Volunteer:  Helps locate, research, and facilitate acquisition of housing lots in Washtenaw County. 
    • Family Selection: Works with families that desire a Habitat home and apply to the Habitat program.  Committee members review and recommend qualified applicants to the Board of Directors.  We ask that interested individuals please make a minimum one year commitment to the committee.  The responsibilities would include but are not limited to:

                 -Attend monthly meeting (first Wednesday evening of every month).

                 -Assist with publicity to attract applicants

                 -Review applicant files.

                 -Participate in interviews and home visits with potential partner families

Front Desk Support:

  • Answers our main phone line, directs calls to staff, addresses visitors, assists Office Manager. 
  • If interested please contact our Office Manager, Crystal Stevens, at officemgr@h4h.org
  • Time Commitment = 2 - 3 hrs/week

Newsletter Support:

  • Manager: Works closely with the Community Relations Director and a newly-forming volunteer committee of writers and designer(s) on the management and re-creation of the e-newsletter.
  • Writer:  Writes one to two short stories/articles each month. Writing may include interviewing volunteers, homeowners, and other people in the community.
  • Designer: Design the template for our e-newsletter that we can use on a monthly basis, as well as put together each e-newsletter as stories come in and help send out in html format.

  • Time Commitment:  Varies depending on position (Manager = considerable, Other positions = 3 - 5 hrs/month)

ReStore Support:

  • Volunteers participate at the ReStore in a number of ways including: customer service, warehouse organization, light to heavy lifting, and occasional online/email advertising. 
  • If interested, please contact Jackie at restore@h4h.org or 734.822.1530. 
  • Time Commitment:  Coordinate with the ReStore staff.  Store hours are Mon.- Fri. 10am-6pm, and Sat. 8am-4pm

There are several small projects at this house including replacing windows, repairing door hardware, Insulating kitchen walls, updating electrical, drywall, other wall and ceiling repairs, installing all new kitchen cabinets, replacement of some siding, refinishing floors, and etc.

This posting is a call for volunteers to help the week before the yard sale to sort and price donated items. If you are interested in volunteering the week before the Habitat Homeowner Yard Sale, contact Sarah Teare directly at 734-677-1558. Weekday morning and afternoon volunteer shifts are available if you aren't able to give an entire day.

We do also need 20+ volunteers to help us the day of the sale. 3 shorter shifts are available that day as well, but we welcome longer shift or all day volunteers. 100% of the proceeds will go to support the Habitat Homeowner's Food Buyer's Club.

Thanks to Charles Schwab for providing employee volunteers to help us get this home ready for dedication for Mr. Robert Kraft. This is tentatively scheduled to be the last weekend of work at this property, but depending on the number of volunteers we have in the weeks leading up to it we may work next Thursday with DTE employees. The Habitat for Humanity Homeowners' Association will hold its first Garage Sale on August 9, 2008 in front of the Habitat for Humanity ReStore located at 170 Aprill Drive in Ann Arbor, off Jackson Road, west of Wagner. All proceeds will go to support the homeowner's Food Buyer's program. If you have yard sale items you wish to donate, please contact Sarah Teare or Floyd Robinson at 734 677-1558. We will collect items during the week before the sale.

This posting is a promotion for and sign-up site for the event. If you cannot volunteer all day, we welcome a partial shift, but if you are interested in volunteering at the event or want to know more about the Food Buyer's Club or other family activities and events, contact Family Support Coordinator Floyd Robinson directly.

Thanks to DTE Energy for providing employees for the second week in a row to help us complete this home. DTE also generously provides lunch for their employee volunteers and we are grateful for that. This day has been scheduled because as it always goes, while we hope to be done the weekend before, it is inevitable that we will have one more day before we can call it done. Thanks again to DTE for being willing to go anywhere Habitat families need them!

We are looking for volunteers to help staff our Habitat for Humanity booth at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival.

The specific volunteer schedule has not yet been set, but if you are interested in working an estimated 3-4 hour shift in the booth any one or all of the three days of the event, please register here and we will be in touch as the time nears to schedule a specific shift. A Habitat staff member, regular volunteer, or homeowner will work with you as well as partner family members currently earning sweat equity toward their own home.

Help is needed to unload the truck and pack the food for distribution to Habitat homeowner's. If you can, you are welcome to assist in transporting the food to our homeowners.

We are also looking for individuals who are interesting in a more permanent volunteer opportunity to help organize the Homeowners Club Food related opportunities.

We are recruiting volunteers to help us staff our ReStore Second Anniversary Celebration event which will include a silent auction of at least 10-15 donated power type tools or similar construction items plus other vendors who have items to sell out of their trunks right here in our ReStore parking lot. This will include builders, remodelers and suppliers who have items to clear out for cheap.
